A dusty dashboard and a heavily soiled seat need different approaches. In our video, Bradley walks through three levels of car interior cleaning using HERO, PILOT, and CLEAN APC—and explains when to reach for each one.

Choose the Cleaning Level Your Interior Needs
The best starting point is the condition of the surface, not the strongest cleaner in your cabinet. Light dust needs a different approach from sticky residue or a neglected fabric seat. Bradley demonstrates three levels so you can choose a practical process without treating every cabin like a full restoration.
First remove personal items, loose rubbish, and debris. Vacuum the seats, carpet, and accessible crevices before wet cleaning. This keeps loose grit from moving around under the towel and helps you see which marks actually need chemical cleaning.
Work a small test area and follow the vehicle material's care instructions. Screens, delicate trim, coated leather, fabric, and hard plastic should not automatically receive the same tool, pressure, and amount of liquid.
HERO: Light Cleaning Without Added Protection
HERO Rinseless Wash is the simple maintenance option for dust, fingerprints, and a quick interior refresh. At the current 256:1 interior dilution, it cleans without intentionally adding a protective coating.
Mix one ounce of HERO with two gallons of water for the bucket method shown. Saturate a clean microfiber, wring it until lightly damp, and wipe a manageable surface. Follow with a clean, dry towel to remove remaining moisture and leave an even finish.
Bradley also uses that same interior mixture on glass, followed by a low-lint finishing towel. Keep the bucket and media clean: this is a fresh interior solution, not dirty wash water left from the exterior.
For screens, use very little moisture on the towel and check the screen maker's instructions. Do not spray directly into buttons, seams, or electronic openings. HERO is useful for gentle maintenance, but no cleaner should be assumed compatible with every specialized screen coating.
PILOT: Routine Cleaning with a Natural Finish
PILOT Interior Detailer is Bradley's all-in-one choice when you want routine cleaning plus protection. It includes UV protection and anti-static properties and is designed to leave a natural matte appearance rather than an oily, glossy layer.
The video shows PILOT dealing with a crayon-like mark and a sticky spill. A microfiber handles ordinary wiping, while a suitable soft interior brush can help work textured areas and crevices. Use gentle agitation, then collect the loosened residue with a towel.
On glossy or piano trim, follow with a clean, dry finishing wipe. If the surface looks smeary, check how much product you used and whether the towel is saturated. Adding more PILOT onto a loaded towel can increase the finishing work rather than improving the cleaning.
For heavily soiled fabric or an old spill, PILOT may not be the final answer. Move to a suitable targeted cleaning process when the contamination calls for it, rather than scrubbing a delicate surface harder.
CLEAN APC: A Deeper Cleaning Reset
CLEAN APC provides stronger cleaning for heavier buildup, stubborn grime, and appropriate fabric or upholstery work. Bradley demonstrates a soiled seat bolster to show the difference from a light maintenance wipe.
The current interior guidance includes 10:1 for heavier interior cleaning and 20:1 for lighter work. These ratios mean parts water to one part concentrate. Select the dilution for both the dirt and the material; stronger is not automatically better.
| CLEAN mixture | For a 500 mL total bottle | Typical interior role |
|---|---|---|
| 10:1 | About 45.5 mL concentrate plus 454.5 mL water | Heavier soiling on compatible surfaces |
| 20:1 | About 23.8 mL concentrate plus 476.2 mL water | Lighter interior cleaning |
Apply in a controlled way, agitate with an appropriate tool, and wipe away the loosened material. Avoid saturating fabric, seams, foam beneath seats, or nearby electronics. Use fresh towel faces so the dirt transfers out of the surface.
CLEAN is a dedicated cleaner without added protection. After removing its residue as directed and letting the surface dry as needed, PILOT can be a separate finishing step on compatible materials. For infotainment screens, Bradley chooses the gentler HERO or PILOT approach rather than his stronger APC process.
Compare the Three Options at a Glance
| Product | Best starting situation | Finish and next step |
|---|---|---|
| HERO | Light dust, fingerprints, quick refresh | Cleaning without added protection; dry wipe to finish |
| PILOT | Routine cleaning where you also want interior protection | Natural matte appearance; buff glossy trim if needed |
| CLEAN APC | Heavier grime or a deeper cleaning job | Dedicated cleaning; remove residue and add suitable protection separately if desired |
Match the Tool to the Surface
A soft brush can improve cleaning in texture and seams without immediately requiring a stronger chemical. Bradley shows small detailing brushes, a larger soft interior brush, and a scrub pad for appropriate areas. Their roles are different; an aggressive pad is not the default tool for delicate trim.
Use gentle pressure, inspect frequently, and stop if you see color transfer or an unwanted change in sheen. Keep clean glass towels separate from towels carrying heavier interior residue. A good towel rotation is part of the cleaning process, not just a final detail.
Interior Cleaning Questions
Do I need all three products at every cleaning?
No. Choose the level that resolves the dirt. A well-maintained cabin may only need a HERO wipe or PILOT, while a localized dirty bolster may need CLEAN without the whole interior needing a deep reset.
Why does the surface still look streaky?
Check for excess product, leftover cleaner, and a loaded towel. Use fresh material and complete the drying or finishing pass before increasing chemical strength.
Can I use the same approach on the floor mats?
All-weather mats have their own cleaning and drying needs. Our floor mat guide explains that process and the importance of avoiding slippery residue.
